Where Is Salah Al Din Metro Station?

Salah Al Din Metro Station is located in Deira, which is one of the well-developed commercial and residential areas in Dubai. The station is located on Salah Al Din Street, near the Al Muraqqabat area, and in a high-density urban area with shops, hotels, restaurants,s and residential buildings.

If you are traveling to Salah Al Din Street, Al Muraqqabat, or other nearby locations, Salah Al Din Metro Station will be of great convenience.

It’s also conveniently located for access to Reef Mall, located on Salah Al Din Street, and Al Ghurair Centre, one of Deira’s established shopping centers. RTA bus information also confirms that there are stops for RTA busesat then Salah Al Din Metro Bus Stop and Reef Mall.

The area around this station is more mature in terms of its Deira heritage, with a combination of commercial and older residential development, hotels and everyday services, as opposed to other stations that are located in some of Dubai’s newer high-rise neighbourhoods.

Which Metro Line Is Salah Al Din Station On?

Salah Al Din is not a Red Line station.

The current RTA network map shows the sequence of the Green Line around the station as follows:

Abu Baker Al Siddique (G18) → Salah Al Din (G19) → Union (G20) → Baniyas Square (G21).

RTA’s list of the Green Line runs from e& (G11) to Creek (G30). Interchanging between the Green and Red lines is possible only at the two stations – Union and BurJuman.

This is important because some online guides talk about the station being a „hub“ in the „Red Line“ network, but fail to mention that there is no Red Line platform at Salah Al Din. If you are travelling to a stop on the Red Line, you will have to transfer.

Where Should You Change to the Red Line?

There are two official stations on the Green-to-Red Line:

  • Union (G20/R18)
  • BurJuman (G26/R19)

In a clear indication of the city’s intent to link the two metro lines, RTA has designated both Union and BurJuman as interchange stations.

Salah Al Din is the next Green Line station in the direction of Creek, after Union. So, commuters on the Green Line who are intending to get onto the Red Line can transfer at Union rather than continuing further along the Green Line.

Another use of BurJuman is where it is more appropriate for the desired direction of the Red Line.

Salah Al Din Metro Station Timings

Below are the official Dubai Metro station operating hours as listed in the RTA timetable (which is general and may be subject to change):

Day Metro station hours
Monday–Thursday 5:00 AM – 12:00 AM
Friday 5:00 AM – 1:00 AM next day
Saturday 5:00 AM – 12:00 AM
Sunday 8:00 AM – 12:00 AM

As per the latest general station opening timings announced by RTA for Dubai Metro, these are the current timings. There may be special holiday timetables, so you are advised to consult the RTA timetable or travel planning service before travelling on public holidays or during time change periods.

This is a significant distinction as opposed to several older online guides that still advertise various schedules. Always refer to the RTA timetable for journey planning.

Does the Metro Run at the Same Time Every Day?

Does the Metro Run at the Same Time Every Day?

No. Hours of operation are not the same as the frequency of trains.

The timetable sets out the operating window, but services are subject to a service schedule. RTA Journey Planner has the ability for the user to input the starting point, end destination,n and time of the journey, and choose between metro, bus, train, and other modes of travel for a specific trip.

If you are about to travel by air, for an appointment, or late at night, you’ll be better off checking out the journey planner just before you take off than using a generic timetable published on a third-party website.

Salah Al Din Metro Station Fares and Nol Card

Dubai Metro has a zone pricing model. RTA has categorized Dubai’s public transport system into seven zones with various fare charges based on the number of zones crossed. If the transfer conditions are met, the transfer between metro and bus can be considered as one trip.

The current published standard fares of RTA are:

Journey Silver/Personl Gold Red Ticket
Within 1 zone AED 3 AED 6 AED 4
2 adjacent zones AED 5 AED 10 AED 6
More than 2 zones AED 7.50 AED 15 AED 8.50

Is Gold class fare plus applicable Gold class surcharge, or is it free for children under 5 years under RTA’s published fare structure?

Salah Al Din is located in Zone 5 of Dubai’s fare zones. The distance from the station to Zone 5 does not apply to all trips, however. The fare will be based on the zones traveled during your entire trip.

Can You Use a Nol Card at the Station?

Can You Use a Nol Card at the Station?

Yes. Nol is Dubai’s single system for paying for public transport, and can be used for the metro as well as other RTA transport services.

Within its set transfer parameters, RTA also permits transfers from metro to bus and vice versa. In particular, passengers are allowed to use different modes of transportation within 30 minutes, and the trips are counted as one trip under the applicable zones.

For those travelling to Dubai for a few days, it may be worth finding out which is better, a SilverNoll card or something else, especially if you plan to use public transport a few times.

What Is Near Salah Al Din Metro Station?

The station is not a good place to stop for a tourist, but a better place for a tourist to be than in a relatively quiet part of Deira.

Reef Mall

One is the obvious Reef Mall, which is located at the station. The mall is situated on Salah Al Din Street and is directly connected to the public transport system around the area.

The bus route E303 is specifically indicated on bus route information provided by RTA to include Salah Al Din Metro Station 1 and Reef Mall 1. The RTA bus timetable also includes the Salah Al Din Metro Bus Stop just before Reef Mall along route 10.

This makes the station a convenient option for shoppers who wouldn’t want to drive into Deira and all the noise and traffic it has to offer, as well as parking.

Al Ghurair Centre

The Al Ghurair Centre is another popular shopping area in the region.

Dubai’s first mall is the Al Ghurair Centre, which is also a popular shopping centre, according to Visit Dubai.

The mall is not built inside Salah Al Din station; thus, passengers need to know the walking route from the exit they will take. RTA’s journey planner or current map service is better than fixed walking times published on third-party blogs for exact walking directions.

Deira’s Commercial Streets

The station is also convenient for commuters going to the daily business areas of Deira. The neighbouring streets have restaurants, shops, accommodation and other services, which make the station relevant to both locals and tourists.

In fact, the importance of Salah Al Din as a Green Line halt has been one of the reasons for this. According to RTA’s public-transport statistics for 2022, Salah Al Din Station received about 5.3 million riders, ranking it among the stations receiving high ridership on the Green Line in 2022.

Bus Connections at Salah Al Din

The metro station is not standalone, but part of Dubai’s city-wide bus system.

In the past, RTA’s published bus information has included bus routes that run to the Salah Al Din Metro area, and official route documents have listed connections that involve Gold Souq Bus Station, Al Quoz, Al Qusais, Zabeel Park, Airport Terminal 2 and Mamzar Beach Park.

However, this may change with the current bus routes. RTA’s Journey Planner enables users to look up buses that operate to a requested stop and allows them to compare the metro, bus, and other transport options.

Therefore, travellers need to check the route number on the day of travel, instead of a historic list of bus routes in an older metro brochure.

How to Get From Salah Al Din to Dubai Mall

Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa is not served by the Red Line, while Salah Al Din is served by the GreenLinee, so there is no direct metro train between the two.

One direct path is:

  1. Start at Salah Al Din (G19).
  2. Take the Green Line toward Union/Creek.
  3. Get off at Union (G20).
  4. Transfer to the Red Line.
  5. Take the Red Line toward the direction of Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall.
  6. Exit at Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall (R25).

The new metro map by RTA indicates that Salah Al Din is G19, Union is G20/R18, and Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall is R25.

However, the journey time may vary depending on waiting time, interchange time, and service conditions, so it is advisable to use RTA’s Journey Planner when an accurate time of arrival is required.

How to Get to the Gold Souk

Salah Al Din is located on the Green Line, which makes it fairly easy to get to the traditional area of Deira, where the souk is located.

From Salah Al Din, head towards Creek and then towards Union Square and Baniyas Square,e and then on towards the Gold Souq and Al Ras. On the Green Line, which is immediately after Union, RTA’s network map shows that Baniyas Square (G21), Gold Souq (G22), and Al Ras (G23) are connected.

If you really want to visit the Gold Souq, there are metro stops that will bring you closer to the souq in general than walking from Salah Al Din, though you’ll still have to walk a while.

Why Salah Al Din Station Is Important for Deira

Essentially, the importance of Salah Al Din is geographical.

Deira is one of Dubai’s proven urban areas, nd the Green Line was created to provide connectivity in such areas of old Dubai. In 2011, RTA introduced the Green Line, a new direct rail route connecting different parts of Deira and Bur Dubai, and stops at Union and BurJuman.

Salah Al Din is almost directly in front of Union on the Green Line. It allows passengers to reach the local Deira destinations as well as the rest of the Dubai Metro network without having to hire taxis for each segment of the trip.

Another sign of the station’s long-term significance is its ridership. During the partial operating year of 2011, RTA achieved 590,232 riders over the 2011 operating year of Salah Al Din, and it achieved approximately 5.3 million riders over the operating year of 2022.

Tips for Using Salah Al Din Metro Station

Check RTA Before Travelling

Old blog posts aren’t as reliable as Metro operating hours published by RTA. Timings may be different during the holidays or any operational changes, so please refer to the official timetable before embarking on a journey that is time-sensitive.

Keep Your Nol Card Ready

To use the metro, you must have a payment card. It is important to check your balance before you get onto the platform at the station to avoid delays.

Use the Correct Green Line Direction

Salah Al Din’s immediate neighbours are Abu Baker Al Siddique and Union on the Green Line. Union is the next station if travelling towards the central part of Deira and the Creek side; if travelling towards the northern part of the Green Line, then the next station is Abu Baker Al Siddique.

Allow Extra Time for Walking

Deira is a very active urban district, and the route indicated on a map is not always representative of the time needed to cross the streets, exit stations, or walk through crowded streets. In warm weather, the distance walked may be much longer as well.

Verify Bus Routes

The routes of buses may be modified, lengthened,d or redirected. Always check the RTA for up-to-date journey-planning and departure information; do not take it for granted that an old route list is up to date.

conclusion

It is a handy Green Line station to get around Deira, particularly to the nearby Salah Al Din Street, Al Muraqqabat and the commercial district. The G19 location makes it easy to transfer to the Red Line to get to sites throughout Dubai, directly opposite Union. The station is also near Reef Mall and has a local bus system that runs from the station to the mall. There are also local bus systems that run from the station to the mall, making it convenient for both residents and tourists. The station is only on the Green Line, so passengers travelling to Dubai Mall or BurJuman will have to transfer from the Green Line at Union or BurJuman. The official map, timetable and Journey Planner provided by RTA Metro are the best sources to consult prior to travel to find the latest operating hours, routes and journey information.
